Miley Cyrus Reveals Clever Way She Hid Money She Spent on Drugs From Her Accountant

Hannah Montana alum Miley Cyrus detailed how she was able to hide the thousands of dollars she spent on drugs in 2015 by purposely mislabeling her expenses.

Miley Cyrus can buy herself “clothing.”

While reflecting on her nearly two-decade career, the Grammy winner revealed the unique way she hid what she called her “biggest cost” while making her 2015 album Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz: her drugs.

“To hide those from my accountant we called them ‘vintage clothes,’” Miley said on the June 5 episode of the The Ringer’s Every Single Album podcast. “She would get these checks of thousands of dollars worth of vintage clothes.”

And as the 32-year-old joked, she kept the ruse up in-person, too.

“Every time she saw me, she’d be like, ‘Where’s that $15,000 original John Lennon T-shirt that you bought?’” Miley continued. “I was like, ‘Ohhh, it’s upstairs. Would you like some?’”

But while drugs played a huge part in her life at the time, the Hannah Montana alum has since been vocal about her sobriety journey, which began in 2019.

“I’ve learned this about myself over the years,” Miley explained during a May 21 Apple Music interview. “Sobriety is—that’s like my God. I need it, I live for it. It’s changed my entire life.”

And though the “Flowers” singer admitted she had relapsed during the Covid-19 pandemic, who she is today is a result of all of her experiences.

“I was so close to who is sitting here right now but life had more to teach me,” Miley shared. “It had more lessons for me. I know I needed to fall one more time. It just never would’ve happened this way. I just wouldn’t have been sitting here.”

And although she is “not proud” of her stumbles, she is grateful for where they’ve brought her in her journey.

“It all led me to writing ‘Flowers,’ which then was some sort of key into the lock of all healing,” Miley said. “It healed me so much.”
