Luke Thiull, a 13-year-old from Iowa, stands out from the crowd of typical teenagers. While most kids his age are preoccupied with other interests, Luke has a unique passion for building. He took the initiative to create his own little paradise right in his parents’ backyard. This impressive project, which he completed for about $1,500 USD, is his dream house. Come and see what he’s built!

This daring teenager is truly impressive, especially considering the era of smartphones, iPads, and cutting-edge gaming technology that surrounds him. He chose to challenge himself in a more ‘classic’ manner.
On his YouTube channel, he shares his journey and motivation to construct a small house, driven by his boredom and the desire to create something meaningful.
After extensive reflection, careful planning, and thorough research, Luke developed a solid vision for how to bring his idea to life!
It took him roughly a year to gather the funds and materials needed for the house renovations. He mowed lawns, organized online fundraisers, took on various jobs, and did everything possible to raise the necessary money.
Luke had a friend who was knowledgeable about electrical work, and they struck a deal: Luke would clear out his friend’s garage in exchange for help with the electrical installation. It was a fair trade.
Throughout his project, Luke utilized around 75% recycled materials, including many items salvaged from his grandmother’s house. The front door was a generous gift from a friend of his uncle!

The cozy little house measures approximately 89 square feet, stretching 10 feet long and about 5 ½ feet wide. It comes with electricity, but currently lacks plumbing, meaning there’s no toilet, sink, or shower just yet!
Luke said:
“I liked the minimalism”
“And I wanted to have a house without a huge mortgage.”
Luke has created a variety of short videos for YouTube, where he shares insights about his project. Many people are intrigued by it and are eager to learn about his motivation behind the endeavor.

Luke got a lot of support from his parents, both in terms of construction and finances. However, his dad, Greg, made sure that Luke would cover most of the expenses on his own.
Greg said:
“It was a chance for a kid to do something more than play video games or sports”
“It teaches life lessons.”
This house is the ultimate dream retreat for a teenager, offering a cozy haven where he can unwind and enjoy his own space. It features a microwave, a TV, and a loft with a bed, plus a BBQ in the backyard!
After school, Luke works hard on his homework in his little house, and when the night comes, he gets to spend some nights there as well!

Luke is already envisioning and dreaming of constructing a larger house for when he begins college. He hopes to inspire others along the way!
He said:
“I want to show kids it’s possible to build at this age”
